My Approach to counselling
Central to my work is a belief that each person has their own resources that serve as foundations for recovery.
The core principles of trauma informed care form the foundation of my approach. The principles include; safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment and respect for diversity.
I have a particular interest in the role of body awareness throughout the therapeutic process. My role is to support clients in identifying, strengthening and adding to resources. Facilitating a collaborative journey towards a healthy and full life.
My areas of expertise
I have worked extensively with clients experiencing concerns with:
Childhood Sexual Abuse
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Sexuality and Gender Diversity
My Therapeutic approach
I incorporate a diverse range of therapeutic approaches. In particular, I draw from Somatic Trauma Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT),
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), EMDR, Mindfulness meditation and Dance Therapy. I tailor my approach to the needs and preferences of each individual. I provide short term therapy and longer term psychotherapy for those who require ongoing care.
How it works
Following initial contact via, phone call, text or email an appointment time is made. In the first session I'll ask some questions about your presenting issue and we may explore some of your history. This allows me a chance to gather a picture of how you fit in the world and to further understand your initial concern. It also gives you an opportunity to experience my style and to ask any questions you may have.
A subsequent session may be made and we will begin to explore your values and specific goals for counselling. The number of sessions will depend on your presenting issue and the goals we establish. We will regularly review the process.
I offer affordable rates. Private Health Care and Medicare Rebates are available. Medicare rebates are subject to a mental health care plan assessment and referral from a medical practitioner.
I am an approved counsellor for The Victims Support Agency and WorkSafe.
